Workshop held on AP Shops and Establishment Act 26th September 2012 at ADP

ITsAP HR Forum conducted a labour law compliance session for HR personnel of its member companies on 26 September 2012 at ADP, Laxmi Cyber Centre office in Kondapur. The session on "Employment Laws - Comprehensive Compliance for IT & ITES" was conducted by one of Hyderabad’s top labour lawyers, Mr Radha Krishna Murthy and coordinated for the Forum by Lt Col Pragathi Kumar Achanta, Area Manager, HR Country Management, AT&T. Mr Radha Krishna Murthy has been practicing in the High Court of AP since 1987 and is the Corporate Legal Consultant for dozen’s of prestigious companies across a variety of industries.

The session was planned by ITsAP HR Forum to address the member companies concerns regarding increased inspections by the Labour Department into IT & ITES companies. These inspections themselves are a result of several instances in the recent past where fraud companies have exploited unemployed fresh graduates with promises of getting them jobs, collecting large sums of money from them and disappearing. The government too has indicated a zero tolerance approach towards such fraud and exploitation and more inspections are therefore to be expected. Given the context, the session covered The AP Shops & Establishments Act 1988, The Contract Labour (Regulation & Abolition) Act, the special provisions for the IT industry in Andhra Pradesh and other statutes like Minimum Wages, Maternity Benefits, ESI, PF, Bonus, Standing Orders, Compulsory Notification of Vacancies, Labour Welfare Fund and Gratuity.

The session was attended by 140 participants from 70 member companies who had ample opportunity to clarify several issues pertaining to these acts from Mr Radha Krishna Murthy. The feedback of the participants of this sessions was excellent and most participants requested for follow up sessions where each act could be covered in greater detail. Neeraja, Manager, ITsAP thanked ADP who as usual, made available their excellent facilities for the HR Forum and provided warm hospitality to all participants.
